About Heart of the Word

An important facet of Compassion Ministries is the “Heart of the Word” radio broadcast, which is funded entirely by CM through those who support us. Heart of the Word, which has been on the air since 1979, is based in Portland, Oregon, and continues to deliver Pastor Ron’s sermons daily.

Our broadcast is dedicated to the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and is committed to bringing scriptural lessons to life in a way that practical, applicable, and encouraging. The broadcast consists of recorded sermons delivered by Ron Mehl throughout his 30 year tenure as Pastor of the Beaverton Foursquare Church, during which time it grew from just 12 people to more than 6000.

In the last year or so, Heart of the Word has expanded into over 350 cities in 45 states, and also internationally via the internet. There has been an incredibly positive response from all parts of the country, with people greatly appreciative of Pastor Ron’s simple yet poignant manner – one listener recently described the program as “meat and potatoes” in a time of “cotton-candy spiritual food.”

The broadcast will celebrate its 29th anniversary this year; during that time approximately 7000 messages have aired.
